Note Second magistrature (τὸ βʹ) of Moschianos, son of Attalos: see nos https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/type/1000-https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/type/719 for his first magistrature. The present coin type was issued after the Edict of Caracalla in 212: the magistrate has now the Roman citizenship as reflected by his nomen Aurelius. His praenomen must have been Marcus, as for all free men given Roman citizenship through the Edict. The reverse probably alludes to Caracalla’s visit of the temple of Asclepius in Pergamum. If so, this issue was produced in c. 214 (compare with the coinage of Pergamum: coins of similar size, with similar busts and obverse inscriptions with ΑΥΤΚΡΑΤ). The meaning of the letters Ɛ Α on the reverse remains unclear.
