Note | Poppy now deleted. The head has been identified as 'Domitian(?)' in BMC and does look very like his portrait. Imhoof-Blumer's only comment about the date is 'Prägezeit vor Sept. Severus'; he interpreted the obv. as 'jugendlicher Kopf des Herakles (?)', but Heracles is not known at Cilbia. A date in this period is suggested by the form of the city's name (used from Domitian to Commodus: hence presumably Imhoof-Blumer's comment) and mainly by layout of the rev. legend (starting at seven o'clock). |
