Note Another piece from Beirut was mentioned by de Saulcy, p. 65–6. The provenances guarantee a southern Syrian or Judaean origin, and disprove the attribution to Olbasa (M. Grant, NC, 1949, pp. 239–40), and Seyrig's tentative ('bien probable') re-attribution to Ptolemais seems very likely. The date of the piece is uncertain; as Seyrig observed it has a first-century look, and a Neronian date is a possibility. The coin is relevant to the question of the titles of the colony (see introduction).
