Note AYT KAIC TPAIAN AΔPIANOC (sic). The absence of CEΒ is strange, perhaps to be explained if the coin has been tooled, although there is no obvious sign of tooling, despite the coin’s rather soapy looking appearance. The reverse design is surprisingly similar to the previous NAC 52, lot 431 = 5883 coin, and we wonder if it was originally a very worn specimen of the same thing, which has been ‘improved’ by tooling (cf. previous remarks on the obv.), with the consequent loss of the small figure of Harpocrates?
