Note Hermes often holds the infant Dionysus; the small figure may perhaps be a genius (?), or, more plausibly as L. Bricault has suggested to us, a Paniskos (compare the figure on coins of Hadrian: https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/type/. See also year 14 (https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/type/. This coin has this strange RPC number, as it was only very recently discovered, and added at the last minute in the preparation of this volume.
