Note | A puzzling coin, kept in L with Cretan coins. It is indeed the same size asCretan tetradrachms, and the confronted heads with a crescent aboverecall the bronze coins of Cnossus with confronted heads of Nero andOctavia, with crescent and star above (1005-6). On the other hand, thereis no star, and the legends are unusual. In addition, the poor style ofportraiture and lettering prompts some hesitation about the authenticity ofthe piece, though it is not obviously a forgery. |
