5432-3. These two series raise problems of attribution and date. They have been discussed by Grant, FITA, pp. 222-3; R. Ziegler, 'Eine bisher kaum beachtete Kolonieprägung für Divus Augustus', MÖNG XXI,12(1980), pp. 169-72; and R. Wiegels, MM 1982, pp. 170-6. Grant's assertion that 5432 dates to the Neronian period and celebrates the centenary of Babba's deductio is unlikely: after Tiberius, no more bronze coinage was struck in Africa and the series attributed to Babba belong to Buthrotum (1400-17). Ziegler dates 5432 and 5433 to the reigns of Caligula or Claudius, which is possible, but not certain, and attributes them to a colony in the western or northwestern part of Asia Minor. Unfortunately no provenance has been recorded so far. It should be noticed that these series might have been issued by two different mints, as their style, weight and die axis differ.
