Note
An intriguing coin. The date year 18 is found on coins with portraits of Polemo and Tryphaena (
RPC
3809) and on coins with portraits of Nero and Polemo (
RPC
3830; cf. 3837 of Polemo and Britannicus (?); there are also coins with a potrait of Claudius and Polemo’s name written out in a diadem for years 12-17 (
RPC
3816-20). So the combination of Tryphaena and emperor is slightly surprising. However that may be the coin demonstrates that the years on coins of Tryphaena are the same as the regnal years on coins of Polemo and of Nero (cf.
RPC
pp. 567-8).
