Note | Ν in field is retrograde. These coins pose something of a problem since they seem to be die-linked to other coins (Levante 544, Münz Zentrum 58 (1986), lot 1433, Schulten (20.10.1988) lot 447, R. Ziegler, Münzen Kilikiens aus kleineren deutschen Sammlungen, p. 255) with ΚΕΛΕΝΔΕΡ[ ] ΘΠΡ(?) ΠΑΔΗ, which must surely be false in view of the poor rev. style and the fact that the column is surmounted by a trident and not a tripod. One can only suppose that an obv. die has been copied by mechanical means. A similar rev. die appears on similarly suspicious-looking coins (Levante 539, Ziegler 254) with an obv. that is supposed to be Tyche. Thanks to specimen 7, the letters before ΠΑΔΗ can now be read. |
