Vogt, following BMC, also attributed the coin to Pius, but the similarity of the reverse to the other specimens cited here suggests that it too is a coin of Trajan, despite the appearance of the obverse.LI is not otherwise used for Pius: the date is spelled out in full, or abbreviated to L ΔƐΚ for AE 17. Of course, AE 12 might be an exception for reasons of space. If Pius this would also be the only AE 12 for this year, so a double exception. |
