GIC 34
ϹΜΥΡ, Severus, bust r.
circular
14 mm
The Γ countermark was always applied to the other side of the coin from the imperial bust and the punches may have been hinged. This seems to have been the case with the denominational countermarks paired with GIC 35-6 as well. Together the two countermarks mark the blanks as coins of Smyrna of a given value. See GIC 33; and cf. GIC 161-2 for a similar group at Sardis.
