Note
Dattari describes the emperor on the reverse of D 3420 as laureate and with a sceptre over his shoulder. If correct, then the emperor is Marcus and the type may be seen as a continuation of the type on AE 23 of the previous two years: https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/type/25456. These details are not clear on the rubbing in DS but Dattari may well have been able to see more from the coin itself. If these details are not correct then the figure on the horse is more likely to be Commodus, who is depicted on horseback with raised hand and with the inscription ADVENTVS CAES on an imperial aureus of AD 175-6 (
RIC
III, no. 604).
