The dotted border seems very heavy, while the style of the Apollo and the very bold and rude lettering seem unlike anything else from early Perperene, as a glance at Barth & Stauber's plates shows. Moreover, there are coins of Tralles (1096, BMC 132) which, apart from the rev. legend, are otherwise identical, including the pose of the figure on the rev. The coin is therefore regarded here as an old forgery, made by altering the legend on a coin of Domitian from Tralles (cf. the coin of Domitian from Docimeum, F1398). This view is not, however, accepted by Dr Barth. 1 B 18268799, B-I KM p. 506, no. 1 8.11 24 12 1 no no yes https://ikmk.smb.museum/object?id=18268799 [show] [edit]
