Caius Valens Hostilianus Messius Quintus was the younger son of Decius and Etruscilla. He was appointed Caesar in September 250 and became Augustus when his brother died in spring 251. After the battle of Abritus and his father’s death, he was recognised by the new emperor Trebonianus Gallus. The young emperor died at Rome in summer 251 for unknown reasons (struck down by a disease or executed by Gallus?).
